After several years working in residential construction, Mel Gragirena discovered the world of art fabrication. The next four years of his life were spent inside the walls of Barnacle Bros. Custom Sculpture and Art Fabrication where he eventually became shop foreman. There he continued to hone his skills as a craftsman while accumulating an "insane tool collection." At Barnacle Bros., he played a major role in the fabrication of sculptures and furniture for such artists as Mike Kelley, Shepard Fairey, Dita Von Teese, Andrea Zittel, Judd Fine, and Allora & Calzadilla, as well as many others.
On June 15th 2011, he officially broke out on his own and opened the doors of L.A. Fabricators. His shop is a 7,000 sq. ft. dream come true. While it offers him a space to accommodate his clients every wish, it also provides him with a place to create his custom woodworks. The galleries below showcase his past and present projects.
